The Rodionova family is from Siberia (Novokuznetsk, to be more exact).
Andrei and Elizaveta are mining engineers (Novokuznetsk is coal country) and not much else is known about them. They were not Communists back in the days, but they've admitted that they miss communism once in a while, when post-communist Russia gets particularly chaotic. Back then you knew what was what, even when you knew it sucked! But now they (and their only daughter) can go to church and not feel silly or out of place doing it, because the churches are full again.
